The discovery of the unicist ontological structure describes what can be defined as the genome (DNA) of leadership.

The discovery of the unicist ontological structure describes what can be defined as the genome (DNA) of leadership. The knowledge of its structure and the different categories of leaders allow defining the functionality of the leadership style of an individual and how s/he complements and supplements with others.

Leadership is based on the need to sustain one’s authority. But the participation of others is a condition of leadership. A leader is such because s/he is followed. Therefore, in terms of the unicist logic, participation is the active function of leadership and the energy conservation function is given by the power a leader has to impose her/his authority.

Shared objectives are the driver of leadership. Shared objectives precede the leader’s activity. Exceptions are new groups with no objectives. In this case, a creative leader is needed. Shared objectives are synthesized in the vision of a company or of a group.

Both the creative and the constructive leadership types are functional to develop maximal strategies. Maximal strategies requires democratic, authoritative and exemplarity driven leadership.

Both the authoritarian and the charismatic leadership types are functional to develop minimum strategies. Minimum strategies require a dualistic approach which includes authoritarian, charismatic and laissez faire leadership.

Authoritative paternalistic leadership is the catalyst for minimum strategies. When the catalyst is missing it works as an inhibitor of minimum strategies driving towards failure or inaction.

To learn more on the DNA of Leadership, participate on the next tweetinar that will take place on September, 27 at 2:00 pm New York time and will be led by Diana Belohlavek.

Work implies producing a displacement of something in the real world. Every displacement generates a friction that needs to be managed.

Work implies producing a displacement of something in the real world. Every displacement generates a friction that needs to be managed.

When two people are doing something in a working environment and one of them produces work and the other is inactive, the friction produced is extremely destructive.

It produces a paradoxical situation because:

1) There is an extreme conflict if the friction is not eliminated.
2) If the parts are “lubricated”, there will be no friction but the person who is inactive will continue doing nothing.
3) The inactive person needs to judge what the other part is doing because that judgment sustains her/his self-esteem.
4) Finally, the one who does the work ends up being judged by the one who cannot do it and the conflict escalates to the maximal level.

Apparent movement is worse than inaction

Inaction appears often hidden behind apparent actions that are done without having assumed the responsibility for producing results. These apparent actions are based on fallacious decisions that produce negative results because they generate costs without adding value.

In this case they do not produce friction; they directly produce an “explosion” of the situation or an “implosion” of the actions.

If this conflict is not faced the natural trend towards minimum energy consumption (*) and inaction will prevail, eliminating both apparent actions and real actions.

To deal with this problem the nature of doers has to be understood in order to avoid their quitting. Access a free e-book on the Nature of Doers http://unicist.org/deb_doers.php

(*) In a closed system, with constant external parameters and entropy, the internal energy will decrease and approach a minimum value at equilibrium.

The use of Unicist Business Objects is only possible for those who are willing to assume the full responsibility for producing results.

The use of Unicist Business Objects is only possible for those who are willing to assume the full responsibility for producing results.

All those who do not need or want to assume full responsibility for results feel endangered by using objects because they “substitute” them in their minds. Although this is objectively false, people who just consider their responsibility for being a “mean” in a process, need to avoid the use of objects.

This can be done using an infinite variety of “tricks”: denial, modification, destruction, criticism,” yes, but”, etc.

The use of Unicist Business Objects transforms their users in the “Generals” of their activity, using the objects as their “Soldiers”.

The use of objects is extremely powerful, cheap and effective if an individual needs to produce results. It transforms businesses in simple effective processes driven by objects.

The notorious capacity of Procter & Gamble is given by the way it manages the social insertion of innovations.

The notorious capacity of Procter & Gamble is given by the way it manages the social insertion of innovations.

We recommend watching the following two short presentations of Procter & Gamble at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycMXZDybhlw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x93YopVXJSM

Innovation is the basis for economic growth. Essentially, countries, cultures, institutions, and individuals grow only in the fields where they are open to innovations.

The purpose of innovation is to overcome scarcity. That is why only people or cultures that have the will, find the way to overcome scarcity. This is the cultural context that fosters innovation.

The driver of innovation is human creation. The word creation is used in the sense of recreation. Humans create based on the existing energy.

The maximal strategy of innovations drives towards the solution of a scarcity. Therefore innovative organizations have the perception that they add value to the environment. But this is only true if the minimum strategy is also fulfilled.

The minimum strategy implies inserting the innovations into the social capital of the environment. Social capital is defined by the strength of the bonds that integrate the members of a community.

Commercial innovations need to be only one step ahead of the habits of the environment. If they are more than one step ahead they fail, unless there is an extreme need and they are, implicitly, a “back to basics”.

In this field Procter & Gamble is a notorious benchmark.

The archetype of China is a unique case of a culture that has the capacity to grow based on the internal consistency of its model.

The archetype of China is a unique case of a culture that has the capacity to grow based on the internal consistency of its model, a model that became complementary to the globalization process.

We strongly recommend watching the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mRlgQKWlnQ

China’s Structure

China is a culture based on the consistency of the social and individual efforts and the capacity of accepting trade-offs to achieve the goals of the country.

The Chinese model has to be understood in itself without comparing it with other countries. It has multiple economic models working simultaneously. It is neither a communist nor a capitalist model. It uses multiple unique solutions which imply permanent trade-offs between the different models to achieve its growth.

The Communist Party can be considered as homologous to the ancient nobility in Europe but representing the interests of China as a country and the needs of its population.

Entering the Communist Party needs to be earned because within the party there has to be an ideological consistency to allow a democratic behavior. The Communist Party is the “Establishment” of China.

Confucius’ Concept

Confucianism is a functional philosophy for a culture that needs to grow in a context of an extremely large country with a large population. Order is necessary to sustain consistency.

Minorities in China have to behave within the limits of the explicit and implicit Chinese model. Censorship and self-censorship are a need to avoid that the culture loses its consistency. But although censorship becomes necessary in this context, it is also the implicit weakness of the Chinese archetype.

Cultures evolve based on their implicit weaknesses. Therefore, a generational change can be expected in this field depending on the new trade-offs the culture will make.

A Shielded Culture

China has been, is and will be a shielded archetype, protecting its culture and beliefs in order to ensure its consistency and allowing making the necessary trade-offs to grow.

This shield was represented by the Chinese Wall in the past, and now it is represented by the multiple regulations that establish the framework of the country.

Maximal Strategy

The maximal strategy of China is driven by the working capacity of the culture and the catalyst for the minimum strategy is their cultural shield that ensures the consistency of its actions. The cultural shield works as a protection from foreign influence and internal distortions.

Minimum Strategy

The minimum strategy is driven by the individual working capacity of its population. The entropy inhibitor, to ensure the achievement of growth, is the ideological shield that ensures the focus of the efforts on the objectives that are being achieved.

The personal capacity of making trade-offs is installed in the population and makes individuals extremely focused achievers.

To apprehend the Chinese archetype it is necessary to understand Doers, avoiding ideological, religious or social comparisons. China was, is and will be unique. China doesn’t base its expansion on exporting culture, but on exporting products.

Benchmarking Rolls-Royce is necessary for all those products or activities that need to be perfect and considered as prestigious by the community.

Benchmarking Rolls-Royce is necessary for all those products or activities that are considered prestigious by the community and that need to sustain their seeking for perfection to achieve their credibility in the market.

In the following lines you can find the answers to the questions posed in this previous post:

http://www.unicist.net/partners-news/benchmarking-is-the-unicist-standard-a-rolls-royce/

A Rolls-Royce is an extremely prestigious car because it has extreme functionality, quality, added value and reliability.

The integration of these four extreme characteristics makes its positioning as a prestigious car possible.

The purpose of a “Rolls-Royce” is to satisfy the feeling of having achieved perfection. Perfection is considered as something that satisfies 100% the expectancy of the buyer. This means that a “Rolls-Royce” satisfies the needs of the buyer considered as an individual, as part of a group and within her/his social environment.

Every activity or product that requires perfection, in the above described sense, needs to position as a “Rolls-Royce”. This can be frequently seen in medicine, in politics, in strategy, and in all those fields where the value added is extreme and extreme reliability is expected.

The extreme functionality mentioned above has two aspects. It has to be extremely functional as a device but also extremely functional in its operation. This implies that no one can expect a superior functionality in the market.

The need for extreme quality implies extreme quality assurance and extreme control. Thus reliability and extreme added value are sustained.

Therefore the process of Rolls-Royce building includes an extremely strict concept, its update in the field of scientific possibilities, the management of all the techniques necessary to achieve perfection and last, but not least, the necessary art to make the perfection perceivable by the community.

Rolls-Royce building and positioning is not a question of choice. It is a question of beliefs. But it needs to be said that this does not guarantee success in business.

A Navigator on the Internet is an object that substitutes the individual that navigates a ship or airplane to position the user in the World Wide Web.

A navigator is the person on board of a ship or aircraft responsible for its navigation. The navigator is not the captain, but provides the information to the captain in order to make adequate decisions. Therefore, the navigator’s primary responsibility is to be aware of the ship or aircraft’s position at all times.

A Navigator on the Internet is an object that substitutes the individual that navigates a ship or airplane to position the user in the World Wide Web.

In business there are many activities that are homologous to navigators:

-Market Research
-Strategic Positioning
-Diagnosing
-Scenario Building
-Information Technology, etc.

In order to benchmark Mozilla’s experience we would consider that it is a way to navigate the Internet providing alternatives to the “captain” in order to use the platform as a tool to develop the activity s/he has planned.

The Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is simpler. It provides basically a rigid navigation platform to ensure that individuals can access information. IE doesn’t pretend to be an adaptive platform. It pretends to be a simple access to the Internet. Thus it is the natural navigator for individuals who just use Internet as an access to information.

The more participative the design of the navigators, the more flexible they can work. The more flexible they are, the higher the level of the “persons” to deal with them.

Mozilla is an example that can only be benchmarked if it is experienced in real use, as well as its comparison with the Internet Explorer Concept.

This benchmark will help you design adaptive systems. The Unicist Standard allows developing flexible designs with quality assurance.

We recommend listening to John Lilly’s lecture, CEO of Mozilla. You will access the core fundamental of Mozilla’s success.

Japan has a very powerful archetype to sustain its ultimate purpose that is growth within a communitarian environment and a deep sense of loyalty.

Japan has a very powerful archetype to sustain its ultimate purpose that is growth within a communitarian environment and a deep sense of loyalty. Thus reliability is a natural consequence.

To understand the Japanese archetype we recommend listening to the lecture you find at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8vxkTozAdE

Cultures that have a strong drive towards growth cannot accept the defeat of their leaders. The elite of the culture needs to represent the values of the archetype.

The purpose of the maximal strategy of the Japanese culture is the expansion of the community based on the members’ pride for their work and sustained by their collective intelligence as a community or group.

Collective intelligence is in Japan the catalyst of their growth. Therefore there is a need for integrating the values of the community in order to be able to exert collective intelligence.

Individual intelligence is the entropy inhibitor of the Japanese archetype. It allows individuals to adapt to the conditions of the situation in order to achieve growth.

Loyalty is the final purpose of the minimum strategy. This means that individuals who are not loyal to the structure of the society are considered as aliens.

The integration of aliens implies a very slow process in order to avoid the loss of the roots of the culture.

Strong cultures as Japan respect foreigners based on their values and deeds. Dealing with Japan as an outsider is easy if one accepts that one is a foreigner. Respecting its archetype is the first step to deal with the Japanese community.

The nature of leadership defines how organizations integrate hardware, software and peopleware.

The Unicist Standard in leadership deals with Object Driven Leadership that allows leading without needing to exert power but in extreme chaotic situations.

The key is integrating the authority of the leader with an adequate participation within a context of power.

But the question here is: Which are the fundamentals of leadership?

You can find the information on the nature of leadership presented by Unilever’s Global Head of HR, Sandy Ogg, who reflects on the recent changes and directions at Unilever and the role of HR and Leadership: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMcHnabCNXo

In two weeks you will find a response to the fundamentals of leadership on this blog.
